a legacy of honor, sacrifice, and service

Judge Jimmie C. Edwards III was born in Cleveland, Texas on Aug. 6, 1948. He and his family moved to the city of Conroe in 1952. He spent most of his high school years as Congressional Page in Washington, DC. Immediately after graduation, he enrolled at the University of Maryland.

With the war in Vietnam underway, he chose to join the U.S. Marine Corp. and began training at the Parris Island Base. He then transferred to Camp LeJeune for infantry training. He was finally deployed to Vietnam in June of 1969.

Later that year he was severely wounded losing both legs. He was taken to Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, Oakland Ca. for treatment where he was determined to learn to walk with the aid of prosthetics. He refused to return home to Texas until he was able to walk proudly from the plane upon landing.

Jimmie was awarded the Bronze Star with V for Valor, a Purple Heart and numerous citations. After his honorable discharge and retirement from the U.S. Marines on Jan. 1, 1970, he returned home to Conroe, Texas where he married Debbie Williams.

He went on to grow his family with the birth of his two daughters, Rachael and Sarah. With a newfound sense of purpose and his passion to serve, Jimmie ran for a representative seat in the Texas Legislature. He honorably served 4 terms before returning to Montgomery County and his home in Conroe.

There he set his sights on the elected position of County Judge. In typical fashion, he won the position and proceeded to serve from 1983 - 1987. During his term as County Judge, he was responsible for renovating the historic Veterans Park in downtown Conroe which was originally dedicated by President Ford.

Decades later, after years of neglect, Jimmie began to have a dream of building a bigger and better homage to all veterans and first responders in Montgomery County.  The ultimately became the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park which is also known as Honored Mission. This new park includes multiple Memorials and Exhibits which honor all U.S. Veterans as well as our nation’s First Responders.
