Retire & Respect
The Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission launched Operation Retire and Respect initiative in the Spring of 2022. The MCVMC has multiple flag disposal boxes located throughout Montgomery County for anyone to dispose of their torn and tattered American Flags. The MCVMC, then respectfully retires the American Flags in a formal flag retirement ceremony.
Operation Silver
Only 167,000 World War II Veterans remain today, most residing in assisted living facilities. The National World War II Museum in New Orleans states that by 2034, there will be no surviving WWII Veterans. The MCVMC is rushing to record thier stories and recognize the sacrifices of Korean and Vietnam War Veterans. Since the inception of this outreach program in 2019, the MCVMC has recognized over 100 Veterans annually, with a framed certificate and challenge coin.
