Continually striving to improve and educate the public on the paramount importance of the history of our military and first responds.
Retire & Respect
The MCVMC launched the Operation Retire and Respect initiative in 2022 to retire old and worn American Flags, provided by members of the community in a respectful ceremony. The Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission places flag disposal boxes for anyone to dispose of their worn flags.
Operation Silver
Only 167,000 World War II Veterans Are alive today, most residing in assisted living facilities. The Nation World War II Museum - New Orleans states that by 2034, no WWII Veterans will remain nationwide. The MCVMC is rushing to record their stories, and those of Korean War Veterans, to recognize their sacrifice before the end of their life. Since starting this outreach in 2019, the MCVMC has recognized 100 Veterans yearly with a framed certificate and Challenge Coin and record their stories.
